Patricia Urquiola has expanded her popular Husk range of seating to now include a chic dining chair version introduced in 2012. Like its lounge version cousins, Husk features a molded shell, literally functioning as an outer "husk" into which the interior cushions fit – each of these tufted in wonderfully trapezoidal shapes that resemble kernels. The Husk dining chair version rests upon a die-cast aluminum base that is available in both fixed or swivel versions.
The Husk dining chair can appear as either playful or formal depending upon the finishes and upholstery selected, yet all configurations are underscored by absolute comfort. The Husk dining chair,s Hyrek plastic shell is available in several colors – white, anthracite, dove gray, and brown. The cushion upholstery ranges from bright textiles to somber leathers; the die-cast aluminum base is available in white, black or glossy bronzed nickel.
Patricia Urquiola is a prolific designer. During the 1990s she worked as assistant professor to Achille Castiglioni and Eugenio Bettinelli at the Milan Polytechnic at the same time led the product development department at DePadova, where she designed together with Vico Magistretti. She opened her own studio in 2001 and has since collaborated with many of Europe,s leading design manufacturers. Her work has already been accessioned into the permanent collection of several museums worldwide including the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
A moulded plastic shell and a series of soft cushions: these are the basic elements of the Husk armchair. A celebration of softness, Husk is the result of a long development process to create a versatile armchair that is both unique in its own right and able to complement even the most classic sofas. Three types of cushions are available: standard, large and very large or with a headrest, while the body support can be either fixed or rotating. A ottoman footrest is also available. Playing on the wide range of colours and finishes of the body (in four-toned recycled plastic), the support (in natural oak or grey or black lacquered wood) and covers (numerous types of leather or fabric), Husk can radically change its appearance, from a single colour to an extremely bright or subtly elegant style. With this project, B&B Italia embraces the theme of ecology by using both recycled and recyclable materials, and components that can be fully disassembled in future – thus simplifying the recycling process and reducing the environmental impact.
